James J. Knoeppel
Jim Knoeppel has been tattooing professionally for over 20 years as the sole proprietor, artist/owner of Octopus Ink Tattoo LLC on Maui. He learned the art of tattooing under the tutelage of veteran tattoo artist Rio Degenarro and completed a specialized education course for Tattooing. He was initially licensed by the State of Oregon; the Oregon licensing guidelines for tattoo artists are among the strictest in the United States.
Ask Jim about his history with Lahaina Town and he’l tell you endless stories of the buildings throughout Front Street that he built decades ago. Beyond behind a prolific creator of fine art, Jim is a tattoo artist, owning and operating Octopus Ink Tattoo for over 20 years.
Jim’s current series, “Local People Doing Local Things,” beautifully captures the simple moments of island life here on Maui.
